Shopping for a boundary survey can be frustrating. Most landowners want a simple quote — but surveyors typically can’t give a fixed price up front. Why? Because not all parcels are in the same condition, and that makes the cost highly variable.
Yes — even in and around Butte County, many properties have never had corner monuments (metal pins) installed. If that’s the case, and you want your surveyor to set those corners, the law requires a Record of Survey to be filed.

Your surveyor will collect these in addition to the fieldwork fee — making these surveys more expensive.
If your parcel was created by a subdivision map or already has a Record of Survey on file, it may still have visible corner markers. In this case, a new record isn't needed, which usually keeps the cost much lower.
If some corner markers are missing, the surveyor may reset them and file a Corner Record — which has no fee in Butte County.
